My Week for £10 – Day 6

After yesterday’s interval I am back to the challenge.  Not only was there no breakfast this morning, but my commitments today did not allow me to have lunch.  Luckily, one of the places I visited today had free nibbles, so I was able to partake of those to keep me going.  Skipping meals is definitely not a healthy practice – please don’t do it.

This afternoon my friend from abroad called to see if I would like to meet her again.  I declined, partly because the rest of the day had been busy, and some aspects had been emotionally tiring, but partly to avoid a situation like yesterday’s.  It is remarkable how many people will offer you food when they know that you are trying to feed two people for a week on £10.  It is very generous, but it is not as if either of us has a lean and hungry look, and I wonder how many people would continue to offer food if the situation were more permanent.  I am practicing saying, “That’s very kind, but if you would really like to help, would you consider contributing to a food bank or soup kitchen?” but it’s harder than you might think.

Use any leftover vegetables you have available to stuff aubergines. These ones have rice, peas and mushrooms.

Turning my attention to dinner, I stuffed the last of my aubergines with rice.  There is a difference between what I made tonight and the way I would have made it at the beginning of the week when I had a few more ingredients.  When I post the recipe, it will include the extra ingredients I missed today.  Not that it tasted bad, but it could have been even better.

I still have not spent the last 46p of my week’s budget, but I am likely to spend some or all of it tomorrow.  To find out what I spend it on, whether there will be anything left, and whether my white bean chilli will finally get made, join me then.
